Every day in Reception is different!  We follow the Early Years Curriculum when we plan our topics and activities, but most of our learning happens through play and exploration.  The Reception children learn how to be a good friend and the importance of following rules to keep them safe and happy.  "British Values" are reinforced through our exciting, enriched curriculum.

Autumn Term 2017

Our topic this term is
"Let's Celebrate"

We will be thinking about;
- birthdays and parties
- British values week - The Queen's rules
- Ilkeston fair
- Autumn, harvest and the Little Red Hen
- Bonfire night
- Winter and Christmas

--------------------------------------
This week in Reception, we've been thinking about the Queen and the rules she likes us to follow so that we're all safe and happy.  We agreed that Mrs Smith is like the Queen because she tells us rules for keeping safe too!
We've also;
- listened to two stories about the Queen
(The Birthday Crown and The Queen is coming to tea),
- made hand print portraits of the Queen,
- made jam tarts,
- designed a china tea cup for the Queen
and finally...
- had afternoon tea where we ate our jam tarts and had a nice cup of tea - yummy!

We have been really excited in Reception because Ilkeston Fair has started! After talking about different fairground rides, we made big wheels using split pins, carousel horses and helter skelters.  We had an assembly about keeping safe at the fair too.

We had our own Reception Fair on Tuesday.  We used real coins to pay for a go on Hook-a-Duck
 and Knock Down the Teddy.  We bought a doughnut too. They were delicious!

------------------------------------

We have done lots of activities about texture this week.  We explored the objects in our Treasure Basket and described how they felt.

On Wednesday, we had a visit from Animaltastic!  We stroked or held a snake, a lizard, a rabbit and a giant snail.  We couldn't touch the hedgehog because he was too prickly!

Meet "Bubbles" the hedgehog!

We have had such a fun week learning about Autumn!
Our
“Autumn Celebration Day” allowed the Nursery and Reception children to play alongside each other whilst becoming involved in a variety of Autumn themed activities.

Please see pictures below!
----------------------------------------------------------------
We have been thinking about Bonfire night in Reception.  We created our own firework dance on the playground, as well as chalking lots of different firework pictures.  We used instruments to make firework sounds and talked about our own Bonfire night experiences.  We watched "Fireman Sam's Safety Tips" to make sure we all understood the rules for keeping safe around fireworks, bonfires and sparklers.
